I thought it would be helpful to compile a list of websites that offer free resources for people wanting to improve their photography further. This list will grow over time. If you find any more resources to add, please get in touch to let me know and I can add them to the list.

Creative Live

Creative Live is a website that offers free online classes in a range of creative subjects, including free photography resources. Each week they release a number of classes that are available free to watch as they screen them. The site is American, so classes are normally shown late afternoon & evening UK time. Classes are often several hours and days long, so it can be quite a commitment to watch them all. It does make a change from Netflix though! Classes are available in pretty much every photography subject you can imagine. If you don’t want to wait for the live classes, or want to be able to revisit a class you can also purchase access. Passes are available for a particular class, or to to all classes for set period, for example a month.

Olympus UK Facebook

The team at Olympus are a really helpful bunch. They’ve stepped up since the first lock down back in March 2020. You’ll find regular virtual coffee breaks, and loads of how to videos. Olympus Ambassador Gavin Hoey is particularly entertaining, with a range of videos showing exercises you can try at home. You don’t have to be an Olympus user to access the information available on this page.

Wex Events Online

Wex is best known for selling camera equipment, including second hand cameras and lenses. But is also runs some photography training courses, and it’s taken these online for now, and best of all they’re free. Sessions include free 121 technical sessions, landscape editing and how to use on camera flash.

Digital Photography School

An online resource with thousands of articles, aimed at all levels of photographer. Be prepared to lose a couple of hours while you read through the back catalogue, or sign up to their newletter to have new articles delivered straight to your inbox.
