Since we’ve been spending so much time at home recently, I’ve been doing a lot of dreaming and planning for the future. One of the lists I’ve really enjoyed creating has been my photography bucket list. I’ve surprised myself with the things I’ve included – most of the places on my list would be for landscape photography. I love to travel and I’m missing that a lot at the moment, I wonder if that’s influenced my thinking?
My Photography Bucket List
Penguins in Antartica
Antartica definitely features on the list of places I’d love to travel to, and my camera would be the first thing I’d pack. I don’t think anywhere quite compares to the vast extremes of natural beauty found there. And with 12 million penguins living there, there would be plenty to keep my camera busy.
Valley of Flowers, India
While some places on my bucket list have been on there for years, this was a new I only came across when researching ideas these last couple of weeks. I’ve never been to India, and it’s place I’d love to explore, and it would be amazing to include the Valley of Flowers as part of a longer trip. The contrast between the natural beauty of the Valley, and the hustle and bustle of the large cities intrigues me.
Isle of Skye
We visited Skye as part of a road trip round Scotland last year and it was absolutely stunning. It was also very, very rainy. The kind of weather that even my happy to play outside in all weather kids looked at and said they were happy to stay in the car and wait while I braved going out in it. I’d love to go back and spend longer in Skye. With even a couple of days of good weather there are some many places to explore with my camera.
Iceland circular tour
We spent a few days in Iceland about 10 years ago and loved it. The scenery was breathtaking, and the Icelandic ponies extremely cute. It was November when we went last time. While we were lucky with perfect conditions for the Northern lights, the days were very short and the nights very long. A lot of the places we wanted to visit were inaccessible during due to the extreme cold. For my bucket list trip I’d love to hire a camper van and take my time working my way round the island. Visiting less popular areas and enjoying the slower pace of life.
West Coast USA
This was the trip that never was for us. We’d planned for several years that 2020 was going to be the year of our big trip. We’d spent countless evenings researching and planning. The itinerary was in place, flights were booked and accommodation secured. Then along came the pandemic and all our plans went out the window. But hopefully it’s just postponed and we still get to go at some point in the future. From a photography point of view there would be such a variety of subjects. The cities, the people, the coast, the long roads. The National Parks, the mountains, the Canyons the desert. One day.
Do you have a photography bucket list? I’d love to see.
